Bookham Bee's Bird Cake
Ingredients
• Good quality bird seed
• Raisins
• Unsalted peanuts (chopped)
• Grated Cheese
• Suet or lard 250g
• ½ shell of an orange
Allow the lard to warm up to room temperature and then cut into small pieces and put in a mixing bowl.
Add the other ingredients and mix with your fingertips.
Keep adding seed/raisin, cheese until the fat holds it all together.
Shape into balls and place in ½ orange shell.
Leave in the fridge to set for a couple of hours.
Put 4 holes around the edge of the orange shell and thread with string – see photo.
Place the ball inside the shell and thread.
Hang in the garden.
Enjoy watching the birds feed.
(If you do not have all the ingredients, just use more of what you do have).
