Bookham Bees WI in the Bookham Bulletin 2025

The Bookham Bees WI members have been as busy as ever, with a packed programme.  At our March meeting we were entertained by Richard Mendham who spoke about The History of Air Travel, from elegance to economy.  April was our birthday party, and we enjoyed homemade canapes and fizz, plenty of chatter and high jinks followed by Bee cakes and a rendition of Happy Birthday.

We had another fantastic evening in May when we welcomed Anne Lovelace, MBE, who talked about the Orpheus Trust.  This charity was set up by Richard Stilgoe and uses performing arts to teach independence and skills for your adults.  We were entertained by Charlotte, an amazing young lady, who is an ex-pupil and now an Ambassador for the Trust.  She sand three beautiful songs for us.  She has an amazing voice.  A truly great evening.

At the June meeting we were all busy bees preparing for Village Day, making flowers out of paper plats and sewing raffle tickets on to teddy bears, all washed down with tea, coffee and wonderful cakes.  The Bookham Bees reallty enjoyed being part of Village Day and were pleased to raise funds for th4e BCA.  We were very pleased to win the runner's up cup for the best dressed stall.

The Bees are always busy, and in April we held and afternoon cream tea and a quiz night in May, both of chich raised a large amount of money for our nominated charity, CRY.  This is in addition to our wide variety of 25 sub groups which range from theatre trips, pub nights, family history group, chees and wine club, to name but a few.

Our monthly meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at the Old Barn Hall at 7.15pm for 7.30pm.  For more information please contact our membership secretary, Heather Broadhurst, infobookhambees@surreyredwi.org.uk
