Bookham Bees WI in the Bookham Bulletin 2024

The Bookham Bees WI have been as busy as ever and we have enjoyed a full diary of events since the last Bookham Bulletin.

In late March, we held our annual fundraiser and raised a large amount of money for our charity First Responders. The quiz, lead by the fantastic Paul, and tasty lasagne from Conisbees made for a great evening. Thanks also to Laytons, who donated a lovely hamper of fruit for our raffle. In April we celebrated our 6th Birthday party in style, which saw us enjoying a drinks and canape party . We chatted and mingled with old and new friends. This was followed by a couple of games of bingo, birthday cake, with the ukulele group accompanying us singing Happy Birthday. Our May meeting was full of fun when Lindsay Barrell gave us a very interesting talk on her life and how she discovered the liberating art of burlesque. The evening ended with Lindsay and several members doing a routine. At our June meeting we prepared some craft items for village day, followed by an Olympic quiz and social time.

The WI Bees took part in village day on June 15th and despite the heavy rain showers, we had great fun and raised funds for the BCA. We had "Pick an Olympic straw " and "Throwing a Pom Pom through the Olympic Flag". A prize every time for all participants proved very popular with young and old. We were delighted to win the runner up cup for the best dressed stall. Bookham Bees have enjoyed a full diary of meetings and groups.

Our activity list continues to grow, and we are introducing a second gin club, a cheese and wine club and a fourth book club. These join our other sub-groups which include Coffee, Lunch, Gardening, Theatre, Sewing, Knitting, Family History, Bridge, Art, Sunday Roast Lunch, Ukulele, Supper, Walking, Cinema, Walking and Book clubs.
